PRIVACY BY DESIGN
Read the news, not a tracker.
PickleNews is designed to work without advertising trackers, behavioural ad profiles or a cookie-consent pop-up for non-essential tracking. Reading the news does not require an account.
What stays on your device
When you're signed out, appearance settings, category choices and local read history are stored in your browser's local storage. They aren't uploaded to a PickleNews account unless you sign in and choose to sync preferences. You can clear them in your browser or export your settings from the Settings page.
Account and saved stories
Accounts are optional and use passwordless email sign-in. If you sign in, PickleNews stores your email address, a hashed session token, saved article IDs and the reading preferences you choose to sync. A strictly necessary first-party, HttpOnly session cookie keeps you signed in. We do not use that cookie for advertising or cross-site tracking. Signing out revokes the current session.
No advertising trackers
The application has no advertising network, cross-site tracking pixels or behavioural advertising scripts by default. Display fonts are packaged with the application rather than requested from a third-party font host when you visit. Like most hosted websites, the server and hosting provider may process basic connection and error logs to keep the service secure and diagnose faults. Do not add analytics or third-party scripts without reviewing their privacy implications first.
News sources and summaries
PickleNews stores headlines, publisher-provided feed excerpts, timestamps and original article links from configured public RSS or Atom feeds. It does not scrape full article pages to copy them around a paywall. Access labels are estimates based on source-level information and are not guarantees for every article. If AI summaries are enabled by the operator, RSS-provided text may be sent to the configured AI provider to create a summary.
Local news and country choices
When you choose a country, region or city, or search for headlines, PickleNews sends that selection or search term as part of the public news-feed request so the server can return relevant results. These are not GPS coordinates and are not tied to your identity unless you choose to sync preferences to an account. Hosting or CDN infrastructure may process request URLs and connection metadata as part of normal service operation.
Optional article images
When image thumbnails are enabled, your browser requests image files directly from publisher or image-CDN hosts. PickleNews suppresses the HTTP referrer on thumbnail elements, but the remote host can still see your IP address and normal connection metadata. Turn off article images in Settings for a text-only experience that avoids those image requests.
Your choices
You can use PickleNews without an account, sign out at any time, clear local storage, and choose whether to sync preferences. Saved stories are associated with your account until you remove them. You can permanently delete your account from the Account page; this removes the account email, synced preferences, saved-story list, server sessions and pending sign-in links from the application database. Local preferences and read history on each device must be cleared separately. Email sign-in uses a delivery provider to send the requested link.
This page describes the current intended application behaviour and is not legal advice. The site operator should review this notice, provider terms and applicable privacy requirements before public launch, especially if analytics, additional integrations or commercial use are introduced.
